NDIS Supported Independent Living

Living in Your Own Place, With Support Around You

Support workers in your home, day and night, for people who need help with daily life at all hours, not a few hours a week. We support participants across Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane and Bayside.

Support in the home you already live in, at the hours you need it.

ABOUT THE SUPPORT

What is SIL, and who is it actually for?

SIL, or supported independent living, is NDIS funding for support workers to help or supervise you at home, including overnight, not for the housing itself.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

What a SIL arrangement can include day to day

The roster is built around one person’s needs, so no two arrangements look the same. This is the kind of support SIL usually covers. If you cannot see your situation here, call us and tell us what the days and nights look like now.

Personal care and getting ready

Showering, dressing, grooming, and every other part of the day that actually needs another person in the room.

Meals, cooking and shopping

Planning the week's meals, cooking them, and doing the shop, with as much or as little help as suits you.

Keeping the house running

Cleaning, laundry, rubbish and the general upkeep, done alongside you wherever you want to be involved.

Overnight and sleepover cover

Someone in the house through the night, either awake and active or sleeping over and available if needed.

Medication and health routines

Prompts, records and keeping health appointments on track, with nursing brought in where that is needed.

Getting out of the house

Support to get to appointments, work, family and everything else you actually do outside the front door.

A home that is actually yours

Your rules, your routine, your visitors. Support in a home does not mean handing it over.

Doing more of it yourself over time

SIL is meant to build skills, not replace them. The direction is needing less help, not more.

Getting on with your housemates

Who you live with matters as much as who supports you. Matching is part of the job, not an afterthought.

Nights that feel settled

Knowing someone is there if something happens changes how the whole day before it feels.

Family back to being family

Parents and siblings often carry the roster themselves. This can hand that back to paid workers.

YOUR GOALS

What this support can help you work towards

Your goals set the direction, and the roster is built around them. SIL is meant to build independence rather than replace it, so a good arrangement is one that needs adjusting as things get easier.

GETTING STARTED

How to get started

People often wait until SIL funding is approved before calling anyone. You do not have to. Talking early is usually what makes the evidence and the timing work.

Get in touch

Call or send an enquiry. Tell us where the person lives now, what the nights look like, and whether SIL is already in the plan.

Talk it through

We work through the hours actually needed, who else is in the house, and what the roster would look like. If SIL is not the right support, we will say so.

Set up and adjust

We agree the roster, sort the service agreement and introduce the workers before anything starts. Then it gets reviewed, because first rosters rarely stay the same. Nothing is locked in.

NDIS FUNDING

Where this sits in an NDIS plan

SIL is quoted and funded separately from the rest of a plan, and it is a stated support, so the funding is set aside for SIL and cannot be moved elsewhere. The thing people get wrong is assuming it covers the home. It does not. SIL pays for support workers. Rent, board and groceries are paid the way anyone else pays them, and the housing itself is a separate question. If SIL is not already in the plan, it usually needs evidence about the hours of support actually required. Every plan is different, so nothing here is a promise about your funding. Your support coordinator can confirm what yours allows, or call us on 1300 544 958.

RELATED SERVICES

Other supports that might suit

SIL is one of several home and living options, and not always the right one. These are the supports people weigh up against it.

Assistance with Daily Life

Help with showering, dressing, meals and daily routines at home, delivered in set visits rather than a full living arrangement.

High Intensity Support

The eight complex daily activities, like bowel care, enteral feeding and tracheostomy support, delivered by workers prepared for one person.

Short Term Accommodation

Short Term Accommodation

A short stay somewhere else with support, often called respite, either for a break or as a chance to try living away from home.

SERVICE AREAS

SIL support at home across Logan, Ipswich, Brisbane and Bayside

Hope & Integrity is based in Logan and our workers live across the region. A SIL roster only holds together if shifts get covered, including nights and the ones nobody planned for. That is much easier when the people filling them live nearby.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

Start with a simple conversation

Tell us where the person is living now, what the days and nights actually need, and whether SIL is already in the plan. We will talk through what a roster might look like and be straight about availability. And if SIL is not the right support, we will say so and point you elsewhere.

FAQs

Questions about SIL and how it actually works

The questions participants, families and support coordinators ask us most.

Do you provide the house, or just the support?

Just the support, and that is what SIL is. SIL funding pays for support workers; it does not pay for housing, rent or groceries. The home is a separate question, whether that is a family home, a private rental or specialist disability accommodation. We are not an accommodation provider and we do not keep a vacancy list. What that means in practice is that we can support someone in the home they already have, without needing a bed of ours to fill. If finding housing is the problem, your support coordinator is the right person to start with.

SIL is quoted separately and written into a plan as a stated support, which means that money is set aside for SIL and cannot be moved to anything else. Getting it approved usually needs evidence about the hours of support actually required, not just a diagnosis. The NDIA looks for a support worker being needed at all hours, with active help for at least eight of them. If your needs are lighter than that, other supports usually fit better and cost you less of your plan. Every plan is different, so nothing here is a promise about your funding. Your support coordinator can confirm what yours allows.

The clearest test is the hours. SIL suits people who need a support worker there at all hours, including overnight, with active help for at least eight of them. It is not SIL if you only need a few hours a day or a few hours a week, and it is not SIL if you would rather find and manage your own workers. Both of those are fine, they are just a different support.

Yes. Since 1 July 2026 every provider delivering SIL has to be registered with the NDIS Commission, and providers who were not registered have until 1 October to apply. If yours does not register, you will need to move. Your plan and your funding do not change, and the NDIA has said it will help people understand their options. Hope & Integrity has been a registered NDIS provider throughout, and you can check that on the official NDIS Provider Register.

Yes, and the roster should be built around that rather than the other way round. Tell us about work, study, placements or anything else that is fixed, and those hours get planned in. SIL is meant to support the life you want, not tidy it into shifts that suit the provider.
